William Lee Bailey, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Bill was born on December 16, 1939, in Montgomery, IN to the late Leighton and Marguerite (Smith) Bailey. He was a high school Physics, Math and Driver’s Education teacher for 54 years. 50 of those years at Chesterton High School. He coached football and cross country at the high school and taught at Purdue University Calumet and Indiana University Northwest. Additionally, Bill was very active at First Christian Church in Chesterton as Worship Leader, Sunday School teacher, Elder and served as the Chairman of the Board. He was a great servant leader in the community.
He is survived by his son William (Cheryl) Bailey, daughter Pamela (Scott) Smith, son Richard (Jody) Bailey, sister Donna Butcher, and grandchildren Kelly, Kyle, Ethan, Kendall, Grace, Nathan, Kara, Maggie and Cooper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Lois, and siblings, Leighton, Jr., Burta, Nancy, and Cheryl.
Bill enjoyed working outdoors in the yard and garden. He was a fine wood worker. He liked making clocks, furniture, and building model airplanes and trains. He was an avid sports fan. He loved Purdue football and basketball along with watching the Cubs and Bears.
A visitation will take place from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at White-Love Funeral Home, with funeral services Friday, August 13, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at CrossPointe Christian Church, with calling from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. A private burial will take place at Bowers Cemetery in Montgomery County.
