Theresa B. (Kurator) Mathis

       Theresa B. Mathis, age 90 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2024.   She was born on June 29, 1934 in Gary, IN to Paul and Mary (Pavlov) Kurator, both of whom preceded her in death.   

       She is survived by her loving Children: Martin Mathis of Brandon, FL, Paula Mathis of Valparaiso, IN, and Eileen Ellevan of Benton Harbor, MI; her Grandchildren: Jonathan, Nicholas, Cody, Kyle and Christina; Great-grandchildren: Jack, Grady, Greyson, Lily, Logan, and Howard; her sister, Barbara Kurator of Tucson, AZ; niece, Cyndee McDaniel; and nephew, Monty Packard.  

       In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters: Pauline Packard, Sister M. Paul, Mary Kurator, and her brother, William Kurator. 

       In her early years, Theresa worked for Southern Bell then Indiana Bell. She later worked for the Holy Trinity Church until it closed. She later worked as secretary at St. Paul Church until her retirement. She was a member of First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She enjoyed cooking and loved spending time with her family. 

       Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 5 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN with Father Quanz officiating.  The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made in honor of her name to: St Vincent de Paul through our Lady of Sorrows Church, 356 W. 700 North, Valparaiso, Indiana, 46385 phone 219 -759-2400.
