Terry Hiestand Obituary

A Special Note from White-Love Funeral Home Regarding the Terry Hiestand Memorial Visitation:

The Westchester Public Library and the Chesterton United Methodist Church have so graciously offered their parking areas to the loved ones and friends of Terry Hiestand for his visitation on Friday, July 2, 2021.  (Specifics: the library parking lot on 2nd Street and Indiana Avenue and the Methodist Church parking lot)

There is a parking lot and street parking surrounding White-Love Funeral Home, but we wanted the public to be aware of the alternative parking areas.

We very much appreciate the kindness and generosity from our wonderful community!

Terry K. Hiestand, steadfast patriarch, respected attorney, and valued Duneland community member, passed away suddenly on June 19, 2021 at the age of 75.

He was born on February 1, 1946 in Rensselaer, IN to John F. and May Louise (Danruther) Hiestand.  He was the valedictorian of the Class of 1964 at Brook High School.  Terry continued his education at Indiana University where he met the love of his life, Anne Marie (Hocker) Hiestand.   They were married on January 28, 1968.

After earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence, Terry began practicing law in Chesterton in July 1971.  He continued to work until the time of his death and was heavily involved in the community.  He was the president of the Flora Richardson Foundation, longtime attorney for the Westchester Public Library, a loyal member and supporter of the Chesterton United Methodist Church, and past president of the Duneland Chamber of Commerce, the Chesterton-Porter Rotary Club, and the Duneland School Board.

Terry faithfully donated blood to the American Red Cross, having donated over 20 gallons throughout his lifetime.  In his free time, he enjoyed feeding the birds, riding his bicycle, and playing cards with family and friends.

Terry is survived by his loving wife, Anne, to whom he was married for 53 years.  He is also survived by his five devoted children: Sarah (Scott) Lawson of Venice, FL, Keith (Carrie) Hiestand of Saukville, WI, Amy (Paul) Klodzen of Fishers, IN, Caroline (Dan) Faylor of Auburn, IN, and David (Martha) Hiestand of Chesterton, IN.   He was proud to be Grampy to seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Lawson, Allie and Sam Klodzen, Jack and Charlie Faylor, and Ben and Ruby Hiestand.  He is also survived by his sister, Carol (Thomas) LeBeau of Lake Charles, LA.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Phillip Hiestand.

The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation on Friday, July 2, 2021 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd Street, Chesterton, IN.  A private family funeral service will be held at a later time.  The family requests that all who enter please wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines.

Memorial donations in honor of Terry may be given to Friends of the Westchester Public Library, 100 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, IN 46304 or to the Chesterton United Methodist Church, 434 South Second Street, Chesterton, IN 46304.  The family also encourages everyone to donate blood in honor of Terry.
