Susan E. (Meyer) Baughman

       Susan E. Baughman, age 69 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on November 14, 2024.  She was born on August 14, 1955, in Valparaiso, IN to William and Frances (Sturgeon) Meyer, both of whom preceded her in death.

       On June 16, 1979, she married Alan Baughman, who survives in Chesterton, IN.

       She is also survived by her three children:  Sara (Chris) Colvard of Bloomington, IN, John (Lora) Baughman of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Daniel (Stephanie) Baughman of West Point, NY; six grandchildren:  Geo Colvard, Thomas Colvard, Josephine Colvard, Carter Baughman, Grant Baughman, and Taylor Baughman; her siblings:  Cathy Meyer of Bloomington, IN, Chris Meyer of Porter, IN, Bill (Cheryl) Meyer of Munster, IN,
Lynda (Dave) Johnson of Valparaiso, IN, Laura (Wiley) Bailey of Kouts, IN, and Bob (Heidi) Meyer of Chesterton, IN.

       In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Martha.

       Susan was proud to be co-salutatorian of the Chesterton High School Class of 1973.  Following graduation from Purdue University, she pursued her career as a Registered Dietitian at Methodist Hospital of Gary, then after some years off to raise her family she began working at LaPorte County WIC, serving women, infants, and children. 

       Susan lived a rich and active life, participating as a Girl Scout and Explorer in her youth, and later as a Girl Scout leader.  She enjoyed hiking and being out in nature.  She devoted herself to following her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was a lifelong active member of Chesterton United Methodist Church, where she volunteered much time and was a member and officer of the UWF women’s organization.  Susan brightened the community around with both her service and her smile.  In her spare time she was an avid reader and puzzle-solver, particularly jigsaw, word search, crossword, and sudoku.

       Her family expresses gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Memory Care facility in Valparaiso and VNA Hospice of Valparaiso for their kindness and support.

       Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Chesterton United Methodist Church, 434 S 2nd St, Chesterton, IN with Pastor Esta Rosario officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. The family will also receive friends on Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN.
