Sharon Sufana, lifelong resident of Chesterton, passed away after a brief and courageous battle with cancer on September 5, 2023. She was born on June 15, 1949 in Valparaiso, IN to Leo Gordan “Polly” and Mary (Slivka) Lindquist, both of whom preceded her in death.
She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Gene Sufana and daughter Bridgit Sufana. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Lindquist Welton of Greenwood, IN; her nieces, Lauren Welton of Greenwood, IN and Hillary Welton Searfoss of Greenwood, IN; her brother-in-law, Bob Sufana of Crossville, TN; her aunt, Agnes Lindquist of Chesterton, IN; and by her many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sharon was an avid gardener. She was outside every summer working on her plants. Her yard is full of beautiful flowers like her many Rose of Sharon bushes, her mother’s wisteria vine and her father’s red maple trees.
When Sharon couldn’t be outside in her garden she worked inside on crafts. Over the years, she honed her sewing skills and was able to make many intricate clothing items for her daughter’s hobbies.
Sharon always loved spreading joy every holiday with her elaborate decorations, especially her holiday village and her Hallmark ornaments. She enjoyed dressing up for Halloween and passing out candy to the neighborhood children. She always cooked delicious meals for her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas using old family recipes.
Sharon loved living so close to the dunes all her life. She also had a great fondness for animals, especially cats. In lieu of flowers, please donate to: Save the Dunes
