Sandra “Kay" (Hootman) Gersna

       Sandra “Kay” Gersna, age 81 of Westville, IN, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 1, 1943, in Washington, PA, to Gordon and Loretta Eileen (Gamble) Hootman, both of whom preceded her in death. 

       She is survived by her loving children: Janice Schrader and Joseph (Lisa) Gersna; her treasured grandchildren: Joseph (Amber) Gersna, Michelle Schrader, Kelly (Rob) Nash, and Robert (fiancé Mia) Schrader; her siblings: Betty (Doug) Combs, Butch (Diane) Hootman, and Teri (Daryl) Meise; and by her nephew, Eric (Debbie) Hootman. 

       In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe, on April 9, 2019, and by her sisters, Mae Miller and Kathy Lindley.

       Kay was the proud owner of ERA Duneland Real Estate for ten years and was in real estate for more than thirty years. She enjoyed buying real estate and improving homes in the community. She also loved the Oak Ridge Boys. Kay will forever be remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. 

       Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 12 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN, with Chaplain Missy Buche officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. 

       Memorial donations in honor of Kay may be given to the Independent Cat Society, 4061 County Line Road in Westville, Indiana 46391.
