Ruby Ruth Lyda dies at age 82

Former Chesterton resident Ruth Lyda, age 82, of Dora, Alabama passed away Friday April 29, 2022 at her daughter’s residence.

She was born April 9, 1940, in Gary, IN to James and Marie (Schubert) Lenburg, both of whom preceded her in death.

She married Donald E. Lyda on November 28, 1959, in Chesterton, IN, whom also preceded her in death.

She has one surviving sister Mary (Lenburg) Lively, two surviving daughters, Karen (Bino) Handley of Dora, AL, and Lisa Lyda of West Palm Beach, FL; two grandchildren, Tim (Kourtney) Handley and Karissa Handley; and two great-granddaughters, Ella Claire and Evie Ruth Handley.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, Richard Lenburg, Tom Lenburg, John Lenburg, and Fred (Bud) Lenburg; and three sisters, Vivian (Lenburg) Williams, Joan (Lenburg) Romer, Dorothy (Lenburg) Quinn.

Funeral Mass will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church on June 1, 2022 at 10:00 am, followed by graveside service at Chesterton Cemetery. Immediately following the gravesite service will be a luncheon at Gelsosomo’s Pizza in Chesterton, IN.

 In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations be made to American Cancer Society.
