Richard G. Wasz

       Richard G. Wasz, age 81 of Portage, IN, passed away on January 18, 2023.  He was born on September 23, 1941 in Gary, IN to Richard A. and Evelyn (Bjork) Wasz, both of whom preceded him in death. 

       On June 18, 1966, he married the love of his life,  Geraldine (Danch) Wasz, who survives in Portage, IN. He is also survived by his children: Robert “Steve” (Michelle) Wasz of Portage, IN,  Richard “Eric” (Christine) Wasz of Valparaiso, IN, Amy (Adam Beckett) Wasz of Osceola, IN, Kelly (Steve Toosevich) Wasz of Crown Point, IN, Erin Wasz of Chesterton, IN; his grandchildren: Lyssa, Jeremy, Sydney, Brandon, Amber, Jacob, Kevin, Andrew, Nick, Alex, Adam, Abby, Ian, and Jason; his great-grandchildren: Symphony, Zyler, and Haizley; his siblings, David Wasz of Portage, IN and Susan McGlothlen of Portage, IN; and by his buddy the miniature schnauzer, Schnitzel. 

       In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Kirsten; his brothers, Paul Wasz and Stephen Wasz. 

       Richard proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was an avid coin and stamp collector and enjoyed coaching his sons little league teams. He also enjoyed restoring older cars and participating in local events. 

       The family will receive friends on Monday, January 23, 2023 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. 

       Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 10 a.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN.  Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso.
