Phillip L. Gano, age 75 of Porter, IN, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026 at his home. He was born on March 21, 1950 in Lafayette, IN to Russell and Phyllis (Karr) Gano, both of whom preceded him in death.
On June 11, 1972, he married the love of his life, Ann Gano, who survives in Porter, IN. He is also survived by his loving children, Amanda (Jamie) Nelson of Michigan City, IN and James (Nikki) Gano of Chesterton, IN; his treasured grandchildren: James Gano, Peyton Nelson, and Sydney Nelson; sister-in-law, Vera (late Dale) Lovett of Kalkaska, MI; his niece, Erica; and nephews, Ryan and Bobby.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Joyce; and granddaughter, Sophia.
Phillip was a mechanical engineer at the steel mill for 47 years. Sometimes Phillip's hobbies were projects, like designing and constructing his garage/workshop; installing the home furnace himself with specialized pieces procured from a metal fabricating shop; and building his own computer. While he always liked working on cars, in later years, he turned to racing engines. Phil owned a boat of some sort most of his life. He loved snow and water skiing, fishing, drag racing, reading, and eating out with the family.
He will forever be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
No services will be held.
