Nancy J. Whisler, 83, of Michigan City, IN, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 19, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 4, 1938 in Chicago, IL to Clarence R. and Alice (Schraeder) Bernard, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Donald "Doc" Whisler, her sister Francis "Cookie" Bernard, her brother Michael Galyean, her step son Dennis Whisler, her granddaughter Angela Gomez, and her niece Debbie Acevedo-Amburgey.
She is survived by her loving children Pamela Hoyo-Gomez (Terry Schilling) of Valparaiso, IN, Laura Hoyo-Tasky (James Krueger) of Rensselaer, IN, Daniel Hoyo (Crystal) of Logansport, IN, her step children Vickie Whisler-Pursley (Dave) Whisler and Donald E. "Twig" Whisler (Julie) of Chesterton, IN, her treasured grandchildren, Chris Gorski of Michigan City, IN, Lexie Gomez of Lake Station, IN, Jeffrey Tasky of San Diego, CA, Richard Austin Simpson of Valparaiso, IN, Parker Hoyo, Ashley Hoyo and Hunter Hoyo all three of Logansport, IN, Richard Amburgey (Christy) of Chesterton, IN, Justin Amburgey (Lisa) of Houston, TX, and her siblings Clarence Bernard (Nancy), Jeannie Martz (Chad) of Hudson, MI, and Edward Galyean (Leanne) of Hudson, MI.
After retiring from the railroad, Nancy was very active in the Democratic party and served several years on the Town of Porters Park Committee for The Taste of Porter. She loved to sew and was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She loved to entertain her family and friends. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
