Michele Stipanovich, age 70 of Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2020. She was born on October 31, 1949 in Gary, IN to Miles and Mary (Rapaich) Stipanovich, both of whom preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving siblings, Miles (Mary Lou) Stipanovich Jr. and Deborah Stipanovich; her adoring nephew, Marko Stipanovich; and by her many cousins.
Michele was a music lover at a very young age. She enjoyed playing the piano during her early childhood, and continued to spread her love of music throughout the years by teaching piano to eager learners. After graduating from Lew Wallace High School, where she played in the orchestra, Michele attended IU Northwest in Gary, IN for Music. Then, she attended Valparaiso University. She was employed in the music department at Liberty Middle School, and then worked at the Westchester Public Library in the reference department.
She returned to Duneland School Corporation, working at Chesterton High School as the Office Manager for WDSO. She hosted a weekly symphony show for WDSO. Music was her passion and she shared this with her beloved students. She played the harpsichord in the Chesterton High School Madrigal Dinner.
She enjoyed playing Happy Birthday by the US Marine Corp Band for birthdays.
Michele was also a member of St. Francis’ Episcopal Church in Chesterton, IN, where she was the former choir director. Michele was a very active in many different organizations, such as: the Duneland Historical Society in Chesterton, IN, the CHS Alumni Association, the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, IN and the Midwest Museum of American Art in Elkhart, IN. She was also a member and contributor to the Quilts of Valor Group String-a-long Stars and Stripes. She was currently employed at Chesterton High School, with a total of 39 years working for the Duneland School Corporation. She will be truly missed by those who loved her in the Duneland community.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020 at 11 a.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN with Fr. David Pearson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. For the protection of the family and the community, masks are mandatory when attending the services at the funeral home and cemetery.
