Michael “Mike” T. Lewis, age 78 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on June 28, 2023. He was born on September 5, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Francis and Josephine (McCarthy) Lewis, both of whom preceded him in death.
On September 3, 1966, he married the love of his life, Cathy (Sindelar) Lewis, who survives in Chesterton, IN. He is also survived by his loving children, Cara Lewis of Avondale, AZ and Matthew Lewis of Greenville, MI; his grandson, United States Navy Petty Officer, Jacob Gonzalez; his sister, Josephine Matha; his dog, Mimi; and by his nephew, Timothy Ledbetter, and by his other numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings: Thomas, James, Patrick, John, Mary, Ann, and Kathleen; his in-laws, Vincent and Dorothy Sindelar; his sister-in-law, Bonita Clark; and by his beloved dog, Will E. Byte.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Army, which included service in Vietnam in the 1st Battalion, 92nd Artillery. He was an electrician by trade, and he had the ability to fix anything. In his younger days, he enjoyed building and racing cars. He also had a love of airplanes and held a private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying to various locations.
He liked traveling in his fifth-wheel trailer to see different parts of the country. Mike was also a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a very hardworking man who would help anyone. He was extremely down-to-earth and unassuming. He will forever be remembered for his kind, generous heart and as a true patriot who loved his country and its flag.
