Matthew ”Jonny" Jon Olson

       Matthew Jon Olson, known to his family and friends as Jonny, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the age of 55.

       Born in 1970 in Huntington, New York, Jonny spent his early years on Long Island before moving to Florida in 1981. He graduated from Melbourne High School and later returned to New York City in 1988, where he built much of his life and formed lasting friendships.

       Jonny was a devoted fan of the New York Mets and had a lifelong passion for baseball. He was especially known for his love of novelty collectibles, both as a collector and dealer, a pursuit that brought him great enjoyment and connected him with a wide circle of fellow enthusiasts.

       He worked for more than a decade at Gotham Comics, where he became a familiar and well-liked presence. Later, he worked as a doorman in New York City, a role that suited his friendly personality and natural ability to connect with people.

       In July 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jonny relocated to Chesterton, Indiana. Though new to the area, he quickly made friends and became part of the community, reflecting his sociability and openness to others.

       Jonny was also a proud recovering alcoholic and an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. His commitment to recovery and willingness to support others spoke to his strength, humility, and generosity of spirit.

       He is survived by his brother, Drew Olson (Felicia) of Sandy Springs, Georgia; his nephews Jack, Matthew, Nate, and Asher; and his cousins Donna, Bobby, Doreen, Bill, Lisa, Marlena and Kathy. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Marcia.

       Jonny will be remembered for his love of baseball, his deep knowledge of collectibles, and, most of all, his ability to form genuine connections with the people around him. His kindness, resilience, and the friendships he built throughout his life will not be forgotten. 

       A celebration of life service for Jonny will be announced.
