Mary Bennett Obituary

Mary Bennett Passes Away at 55

Mary Elizabeth Bennett, of Liberty Twp. and Porter, died Tuesday, June 7, 2022, she was 55 years old.

Mary was born March 25, 1967 in Oak Park Illinois, the daughter of George R. Bennett Jr. and Betty (Summers) Bennett, who preceded her in death.

Mary is survived by a heartbroken sister, Catherine (Bennett) Colín of Porter; as well as brother in law, José Manuel Colín Morales. She is also survived by a very dear best friend, Evan Pullins-Clark.

The oldest of two children, Mary grew up in Liberty Township. She graduated from Chesterton High School in 1985 and then attended Vandercook College of Music in Chicago Illinois where she majored in Cello. Mary began working at The Congress Hotel in Chicago first as a Wedding Planner and later as the Director of Food and Beverage, the latter would become her passion in life. Mary worked at several large corporations and hospitals as Director of Food and Beverage. Mary most recently worked at Golden Living as Director of Dining Services, she enjoyed her staff but mostly enjoyed her daily interaction with the residents.

Mary loved living near the water. Lake Michigan was a favorite spot for her to sit and reflect. For a short time she lived in Los Angeles, California and fell in love with the colors and majesty of the ocean. Mary enjoyed visiting Craft Breweries both near and far with friends Tim and Gena Howard. Mary was a life long fan of The Beatles and George Harrison. She adored Elvis Costello. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Blackhawks - especially Andrew Shaw. She absolutely loved everything to do with Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and Deadliest Catch. Her favorite book was Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With The Wind.

The family will schedule a Celebration of Life in the near future and hopes friends and family will be able to attend.
