Marilyn Irene Moore, “Mim”, age 87 formerly of Oak Lawn, IL, met her Savior face to face on February 24, 2021. She was born on September 20, 1933 in Chicago, IL to Lloyd and Jennie Johnson, both of whom preceded her in death.
On February 15, 1958 in Chicago, IL, she married the love of her life, Norman Moore, whom she now joins in Heaven.
She is survived by her loving children: Brenda (Howard) Head, of DeRidder, LA; Brian (Michelle) Moore, of Indianapolis, IN; and Barry (Lorna) Moore, Chesterton, IN; her adoring grandchildren: Nathan Head, Ian Moore, Marissa Moore, Victoria Moore, Douglas Moore, Cassandra (Jacob) Long, Ethan Ogorek, Taylor Ogorek; and her adoring great grandchildren: Abigail Long, William Long, and Gabrielle Long.
Mim graduated from Chicago Vocational School and went on to be a Licensed Practical Nurse. She had a storied 42-year career at South Shore Hospital in Chicago, IL. In her time at South Shore she worked in the Emergency Room, Surgery, and as a Floor Nurse. Mim was a long-time member of Elim Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. She lived out her faith as a deaconess and Women’s Bible Study leader. Mim loved going fast, whether the fast pace of the ER or driving fast cars. As a young woman she won many stock car races at the 87th Street Speedway, including the Briley Golden Championship in 1953. She loved spending time with family and relished her role as a loving grandmother.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Liberty Bible Church 824 N. Calumet Ave. in Chesterton, IN on Saturday March 13, 2021 at 11:00AM. Visitation will begin at 9:30AM. We will also celebrate her husband, Norman, who passed during the pandemic only nine months ago.
