Loren John Knibbs, age 95 of Porter, IN, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family on May 28, 2021. He was born on January 28, 1926 in Illinois to Truman and Mattie Knibbs, both of whom preceded him in death.
On July 16, 1955, in Chicago, IL, he married the love of his life, Joan Knibbs, who preceded him in death on September 29, 2017.
He is survived by his loving children: Doreen (Jim) Bernard of Tinley Park, IL, Charles (Mary Lou) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Donald (Anne) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, James (Leigh) Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Susan Knibbs of Chicago, IL, Kenneth Knibbs of Chicago, IL, and Richard Knibbs of Chicago, IL; his 15 grandchildren; by his 13 great-grandchildren, and two more great-grandchildren on the way.
Loren proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a faithful member of the Porter United Methodist Church and devoted countless hours of his time volunteering in his community. He would often be found volunteering at the Westchester Food Pantry, Duneland Medical Lending Closet, Habitat for Humanity, and “Save the Dunes” and "Meals n Wheels."
Loren enjoyed spending time with his family, being a member of the "Sunset Club" at Indiana Dunes State Park, woodworking and carpentry. Camping, hiking, bike riding, and reading were also some of his favorite hobbies, along with watching NFL, NBA, NCAA football and basketball games, and other sports.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Porter United Methodist Church, 100 E Beam St., Porter, IN.
