Leon R. Fickel

Leon R. Fickel, age 77 of Chesterton, formerly of Michigan, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at The Waters of Duneland.  He was born in Detroit, MI on February 21, 1938 to Clyde Leslie and Alberta Fickel, both of whom preceded him in death. 

He is survived by his sons: Joel (Jennifer) Fickel of Rochester, MI, Reverend Erich (Christina) Fickel of Chesterton, IN and Kirt Fickel of Jacksonville, FL, as well as his six grandchildren: Emma, Joel and Shannon, all of Rochester, Michigan, and Seth, Sarah and Benjamin, all of Chesterton. 

His sister, Patricia (Dean) Finchum of Michigan and his brother-in-law John Schietecatte of Michigan are also surviving. 

He is also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Schietecatte.

Leon was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chesterton, where his son is the pastor..  He was a plumber and was also the owner of Leon Fickel Contracting. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 106 E. 1100 N., Chesterton, IN 46304, with Reverend William Foy officiating.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.  Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.
