Lawrence “Larry” Wojnarowicz Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Edward Wojnarowicz

June 22, 1947 – October 17, 2025

Lawrence “Larry” Edward Wojnarowicz, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. He was born on June 22, 1947, to Edward and Genevieve Wojnarowicz, who preceded him in death. Larry was the beloved husband of Susan, his wife of 51 years, and the proud father of three daughters: Shannon, Lianne (Brian) Mink, and Alison (Robert) Blackwood. He deeply cherished his role as grandpa to his five grandchildren—Bryce, Leighton, and Sloan Mink and Logan and Emersyn Blackwood. His family was the greatest joy of his life and he treasured every moment with them.

Larry started his early career as a teacher, educating middle school and high school students in Lake Station, before earning his masters degree and becoming an accountant for 35 years. He spent his professional career as a partner at Thomas Havey & Company/Legacy Professionals LLP before retiring in 2012.

A man of many passions, Larry found peace and fulfillment in gardening, particularly in tending to his Japanese garden. He loved history, trains, stamp collecting, traveling, and sharing his knowledge and stories with those around him. He also dedicated much of his time to service, giving back to the community. He served on the board of the Down Syndrome Association of Northwest Indiana for numerous years, including several years as President. He was an active member of the Lions Club and the Salvation Army for more than 30 years.

Those who knew Larry will remember his generosity, his quiet strength, and the way he poured his heart into everything he loved—especially his family.

In keeping with Larry’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation or Salvation Army-Northwest Indiana Area Command, in honor of his lifelong commitment to giving back.

Larry’s legacy of kindness and love of learning will live on through the lives he touched and the family he so dearly loved.
