Larry D. Crawford

       Larry D. Crawford Sr., age 81 of Burns Harbor, IN, passed away on May 15, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on January 19, 1943 in Michigan City, IN to Dwight William Crawford and Violet (Cover) Crawford, both of whom preceded him in death.

       On June 2, 1979 in Kankakee, IL, he married the love of his life, Louella “Kay” (Hilgert) Crawford, who survives in Burns Harbor, IN. He is also survived by his loving children: Larry (Sheri) Crawford Jr. of California, Joe (Robin) Crawford of Portage, IN, Theron (Brenda) Crawford of Wyoming, MI, Del Crawford of Lake City, PA, and Sarah (Michael) Stevens of Melbourne, FL; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his sister, Virginia Aiello of Sun City, AZ; and by many nieces and nephews.  

       In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Kyle Crawford; and by his brothers, Bill Crawford and Bob Crawford.

       Larry was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in South Haven. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with the Military Police from 1962-1964.  He participated in bus ministry for 30 years, taking thousands of kids to church.  He was a published poet, authoring two books and several songs. His main purpose in life was to glorify God, to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone around him, and to set a godly example for his family to follow.

       Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 760 McCool Rd, Valparaiso, IN with Pastor John Allen officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.  Burial will follow at Heckman Memorial Cemetery.
