Kathleen Delia Miller, age 64, formerly of Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on August 28, 2025.
She was born on July 3, 1961, in Chicago, IL to George S. Smith II who preceded her in death, and Elaine Smith, who survives in Crown Point, IN.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Hayley Miller (and son-in-law Brandon Garvey) of Denver, CO, who is expecting Kathleen’s first grandchild, and Hannah Miller of Denver, CO; her brothers: Patrick Smith of Homewood, IL and George Smith III of Port Byron, IL; her sisters: Karol Witt of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and Deborah Simanski of Porter, IN; and by her several nieces and nephews.
Kathleen grew up on the South Side of Chicago and in Dune Acres, Indiana. She loved walking and spending time in the Indiana Dunes throughout her life.
She had a deep Catholic faith, and she was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for over 25 years. She devoted much of her time to various parish programs and initiatives. She was a beloved mother of two daughters and was joyfully anticipating becoming a grandmother.
Kathleen devoted her life to childcare and child development. She raised her two daughters as a stay-at-home mom, operated her own daycare, and earned her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
She was an avid reader and lover of the arts: theater, drawing, painting, and photography.
She was a talented artist, gifted in drawing and painting.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N Calumet Rd, Chesterton, IN, with Father Jon Plavcan officiating.
