Judith L. Fant (nee Anderson), age 72 of Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2014. She was born on October 25, 1941 in Gary, IN, to Russell and Sigrid (nee Bodine) Anderson, both of whom preceded her in death.
A 1959 graduate of Chesterton High School, Judy married James L. Fant on June 26, 1959. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Linnea (Don) Kountz of Crystal Lake, IL, son James A. (Lynda) Fant of Chesterton, and grandchildren Catherine, Kurt, and Andrew Fant, and Erik and Brian Kountz, sister Ingrid (Larry) Ryan of Chesterton and many nieces and nephews.
Judy was active at Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church in Porter, IN, in worship and church activities. She was a member of Luther League, choir, Altar Guild, Memorial Committee and a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. She was energetically involved in these church projects: Lutheran World Relief, making school kit bags; Christmas Children’s Clothing drive, collecting coats, hats, mittens and boots for a local elementary school; local Art Fair, organizing members to serve food to hungry art-goers; swing prayer shawls; serving grieving families at funeral luncheons; providing “armchair travel” postcards to homebound family and friends; and performing random acts of kindness to local civic workers. She was also a generous contributor to the Westchester Food Pantry. She loved to plan and organize travel trips with friends to Europe, and with family to all 50 United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland, Mexico, Caribbean and Bahama Islands, and especially to Sweden (where with Jim, they took all five grandchildren) to visit relatives and adopted relatives.
