Joseph (Pops) Jimenez Obituary

       Joseph A. Jimenez (Pops), age 79 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at VNA Hospice in Valparaiso.  He was born on March 29, 1941 in Gary, Indiana to Trinidad and Petra Jimenez, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers:  Rudolf Jimenez, Hector Jimenez, Raymond Jimenez, and Refugio Ramirez; his sisters: Connie Deltoro, Carmen Ramirez and Eva Ramirez; and by his children, Roger Jimenez and Greg Jimenez.

       He was retired from Ford Motor Co with 27 years of service. He belonged to UAW Local 588 and loved volunteering when he could. He also worked at The Times Newspaper, and he was a Lance Corporal in the Marines for 6 years. He loved coaching sports in his community, and especially loved watching and coaching his kids and grandkids in sports over the years. He also loved watching his son and friends play at various venues in their bands. He loved watching his Chicago Bears, White Sox and Bulls. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. 

       He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Jimenez; his children: Laurie McMannes, Lisa McMannes, Daniel (Christina Fuson) Jimenez, and James Jimenez; his grandchildren:  Kathleen McMannes, Jennifer McMannes, Dainen Jimenez, and Angelisa Jimenez; his great-grandchild, Grayson Dumas; and by his numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends. 

       Services will be private, as he chose to be cremated. Due to the pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
