Joseph R. Sosnowski

       Joseph R. Sosnowski, age 78 of Porter, IN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 23, 2021. He was born on February 11, 1943 in Chicago, IL to George W. and Angeline (Bogdanovich) Sosnowski, both of whom preceded him in death.

       On November 7, 1970, he married the love of his life, Georgia C. (Dumis) Sosnowski, who survives in Porter, IN.  He is also survived by his loving children: John (Amy Smith) Sosnowski, Joanna Sosnowski, Jennifer Sosnowski, Mary Sosnowski, Vincent (Mary Kate Downing) Sosnowski, Veronica Sosnowski, Kathleen Sosnowski, Angie (Tarpley) Sosnowski, Jim (Jessica Slont) Sosnowski, Sara (Winston Rocha) Sosnowski Rocha, Elizabeth (Jesse Cochran) Sosnowski, and Jeannette Sosnowski; and by his treasured grandchildren: Chris (Christine), Caitey (Scott), Michael, Emma, Abigail, Ava, Clara, Joey, Samuel, Eros, Annabelle, August, Adaline, Henry, and Isabelle. 

       He was also preceded in death by his brother, George Sosnowski. 

       Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabea. He worked at Nipsco for a few years before becoming a Teamster with the Local 142 where he retired from. He was a devoted member of St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church in Munster where he also worked as a volunteer making perogies. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, no matter the situation. He was a jack of all trades. He loved baseball and car racing. In his earlier days, he enjoyed farming and working on cars.  He was a devoted father who cherished his time with his 12 children and grandchildren.  His favorite pastime of all were the many drives he took with his sweet pea to little towns throughout the area. 

       A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 10 a.m. at St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 8624 White Oak Ave, Munster, IN. There will be a visitation at the church prior to the Mass on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. 

        Burial will follow at Chesterton Cemetery. 

       The family will receive friends on Monday, November 1, 2021 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. 

       The family will share their memories with friends at 6 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Immediately after, at 6:30 p.m., there will be a Prayer Service. 

       The Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m. 

       Flowers are welcome. Memorial donations in honor of Joseph may be given to the VNA Hospice Center: 501 Marquette St., Valparaiso, IN 46383 or to Disabled American Veterans: 2301 Ohio St., Michigan City, IN 46360.
