Joan Wainovich Obituary

       Joan Elizabeth Weidman Wainovich, originally from Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2022. Loving mother to her sons Ronald Seils of Moncure, NC, and Michael Seils of New Orleans, LA, and wife to John Wainovich. Joan was also the beloved sister of Judy (Ed) Bishop of Nashville, TN, Dorothy Weidman Meyers of Chesterton, IN, and Barbie (Harry) Lowe of San Antonio, TX. Joan was the cherished grandmother of Nicholas Seils and Erika Seils, both of Pittsboro, NC. In addition to her grandchildren, Joan is survived by many grandnephews and grandnieces.

       Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Peggy Weidman, her brother-in-law Ed Bishop, and her son, Lester William (Bill) Seils.

       Joan was born on March 28, 1942. Joan graduated from Chesterton High School in 1960. She then went on to graduate from Teachers College, Ball State University, IN, in 1964 with a degree in elementary education and
enjoyed teaching.

       Joan was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Chesterton, IN. She was one of the founders, with other members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, of what now is the Duneland Resale Shop. She was an active member of Business and Professional Women in Schaumburg, IL, and Chesterton, IN. Joan also loved cooking and learning about history. Joan loved to bake pies and was known for her blueberry pie. She founded a group of women from Schaumburg and Elgin, IL, who shared her interest in studying culinary practices of various ethnic groups. She arranged tours of many restaurant kitchens in Chicago, IL, to enlighten her knowledge.

 

       A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN. The Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. 

       Memorial donations in honor of Joan may be given to: Humane Society of the Dunes, PO Box 2481, Chesterton, IN 46304.
