James “Jim” Nichols Obituary

       James E. Nichols, age 78 of Lowell, IN, passed away on September 30, 2023. He was born on November 9, 1944 to William and Eloise (Miller) Nichols, both of whom preceded him in death.

       On July 21, 1968, he married Vicky (Thorne) Nichols, who survives in Lowell, IN. He is also survived by his children Bill (Jennet) Nichols of Lowell, IN, Jamie (Brad) Verhey of Frankfort, IN, Ben (Whitney) Nichols of Lowell, IN and his grandchildren: Andy and Matt Verhey.

       Jim was the cofounder of Nichols Mfg Co Inc in Lowell, IN which is proudly operated by his wife and sons. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a Lake County 4-H General Superintendent for many years and also served as a County, Area, State and National 4-H Tractor Leader. Jim’s proudest accomplishment was being married to Vicky for a wonderful 55 years.

       Jim received many awards for his volunteer work. In 2008 Jim and Vicky both received the Gleaner Community Service Award. Jim was honored as Indiana’s Outstanding Lifetime 4-H Volunteer in 2010.  The Recognition of Accomplishment for the National Engineering Challenge was awarded by the Lake Co Board of Commissioners in 2018.

       A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 1-4 at Senator Rick Niemeyer’s facility located at 13304 W. 181st Ave. Lowell, IN.

       Memorial donations may be given to the charity of choice in Jim’s name.
