Henry “Lowell" Carter Obituary

       Henry “Lowell” Carter, age 100, passed away on April 29, 2023. He was born on February 17, 1923 in Stateline, IN to Henry Allen Carter and Nancy (Clapp) Carter, both of whom preceded him in death. 

       He is survived by his loving children: Rosalie Carter of Chesterton, IN, Kent (Bert) Carter of LaPorte, IN, Scott (Karen) Carter of Valparaiso, IN, and Carol (Guy) Belcher of Valparaiso, IN; his grandchildren: J.D., Kevin, Dawn, Candace, Anthony, Destiny, Melissa, Gabrielle, Jacob, Jessica, Marlayna, Miranda, and Justin; his great-grandchildren: Travis, Ashley, Dillion, Trevor, Helen, Isaiah, Isbella, Jorgie, Hayleigh, Savanah, Brantley, Logan, Cole, Layla, Lexie, and Carter; and by his siblings: June, Helen, and Kenneth. 

       In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Nita Henry Carter on April 21, 2014; his granddaughter, Shaun; and by his siblings: Harold, Charles, and Viola. 

       Lowell was an operating engineer for many years and was a member of Local 150. He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church and was also a member of the American Legion. He was a horseshoe pitcher, an avid bowler, and rode his Harley until he was 84. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and was elated he lived to see them win a World Series. 

       Funeral Services were held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 12 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN, with Pastor Allen Wright officiating. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Burial took place at Chesterton Cemetery.
