Elsie Moss Obituary

On February 6, 2026, Elsie E. Moss was welcomed Home and entered into the eternal and loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  The only daughter raised with four brothers, Elsie was born in East Chicago to Joseph and Agnes Bistryski on September 25, 1931.  Of Polish and Czechoslovakian descent, her family embarked on a new life in the United States as proud citizens, and Elsie lived her life with hard work, grit, and determination.  After graduating from Washington High School, she worked at the Harbor News Agency for many years where she met and eventually married the great love of her life, Sidney (Chile) Jack Moss.  After his tragic death, Elsie continued on in her commitments to serving God, her family, and her community through work and numerous volunteer efforts.  An avid reader, a professional shopper, and a dedicated Bears and Cubs fan, Elsie engaged everyone in lively conversations, and she will be truly missed.  Predeceased by her parents, husband, and four brothers: Joseph, Robert, Edward (our amazing Uncle Eddie!), and Alfred (Freddy) Bistryski, she is survived by a son, Garry Plesha, grandchildren Nicholas and Britney, and great-grandchildren.  Elsie is survived by her loving family—daughter Nancy (Dr. Leonard) Anglis, grandchildren Jaclyn (fiancé Ron Hahn) Anglis and Andrew (Emily) Anglis.

Her arrangements are entrusted to White-Love Funeral Home in Chesterton, Indiana.  Her Funeral Mass will be officiated by Reverend Keith Virus at St. Mary’s Church in Griffith, Indiana on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at Maplewood Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials honoring Elsie may be given to Dunes Hospice or Maryknoll Missionaries.
