Edgar Allen Wahl (5/23/29 – 4/21/22)
Life-long resident Ed Wahl passed away at his Porter, Indiana residence on Thursday, April 21, 2022. He was born in Porter on May 23, 1929, son of Clarence and Alvina (nee Brickner) Wahl.
After graduation from Chesterton High School in 1948, Ed worked for the New York Central Railroad until he was drafted into the US Army in January, 1951. He served in combat in Korea with the 12th and 15th Field Artillery Battalions, 2nd Division. Ed rotated home in 1952 and on May 3rd married Ruth A. Peterson, his wife for nearly 70 years.
Following his discharge from the Army, Ed began a tool and die apprenticeship with Paramount Tool in Chesterton, Indiana. In 1958 he joined General Refractories, Inc. of Gary where he supervised the installation of the company’s products at steel mills across the US and Canada. He retired in 1994 after 36 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, daughters Christine (Clay) Watkins of Chesterton, Lori Wahl of Westfield, IN, son David Wahl, also of Westfield; granddaughter Shannon Moore (fiancé Josh Arimura) of Pahrump, NV, grandson Clay Allen (Misha) Watkins of Lafayette, IN; great grandchildren David, Emily and Erin Moore, and great-great granddaughters Avery and Parker. Also, nephew Ron (Deb) Wahl of Chesterton, niece Sue Webb of Madison, IN and first-cousin Marvin (Becky) Brickner of Valparaiso, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law Elmer and Kathy Wahl, and great grandson Mathew Moore.
There will be no services at this time per Ed’s wishes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ed’s name to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
