Farmer Don Scheeringa, age 82 of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on August 20, 2023. He was born on December 18, 1940 in Griffith, IN to William and Gertrude (Kuiper) Scheeringa, both of whom preceded him in death.
On October 31, 1970, in Munster, IN, he married the love of his life, Barbara S. (Lowe) Scheeringa, and they were married for 48 wonderful years prior to her passing in 2019.
He is survived by his loving children: Jeannine (Frank) Kalvaitis of Lowell, IN, Janille Scheeringa of Highland, IN and Jennifer (John) Vanek of Highland, IN, and Scott of Mission Viejo, CA; his adoring grandchildren: Zoie Ison of Highland, IN, Zander Ison of Highland, IN, Austin Kalvaitis of Lowell, IN, Blake Vanek of Highland, IN, Hunter Vanek of Highland, IN and Max Vanek of Highland, IN; his sister, Loretta (Harry) Klar of Lowell, IN; his brother, Jerry Scheeringa of Merrillville, IN; sister-in-law, Betty Scheeringa; and by his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, William and Gertrude Scheeringa, and his beloved wife, Barbara S. (Lowe) Scheeringa, he was also preceded in death by his siblings: Dirk (Joanne) Scheeringa, Robert (Ruth) Scheeringa, Dorothy (Mitch) Ruiter, Lambert William Scheeringa, Anthony “Tony” (Betty), Sidney (Sandy) Scheeringa, and Marvin (Florence) Scheeringa.
Don was the proud owner of Scheeringa Farms and Produce in Highland, IN, along with his beloved wife, Barb. Together, the couple had three beautiful daughters, all who proudly partake in the family farm. He was also a member of Trinity Reform Church and loved traveling with his family.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Beacon Light Community Church, 3770 Burr St., Gary, IN, with Pastor John Hoffmaster officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at White Funeral Home, 921 W Glen Park Ave, Griffith, IN.
