David L. Stegemann

       David L. Stegemann, age 73 of Chesterton, IN, passed away on August 13, 2024, in Fort Wayne, IN.  He was born on October 25, 1950, to Louis and Erma Jean (Kinsey) Stegemann, both of whom preceded him in death.

       On April 3, 1971, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he married the love of his life, Christine (Slont) Stegemann, who survives in Chesterton, IN.  He is also survived by his loving daughters, Kerri (Brian) Thilman of Osceola, IN and Kelly (Timothy) Van Wagner of Valparaiso, IN; his grandchildren: Emma (Sam) Thilman-Nowak, Claire Thilman, Luke Thilman, Benjamin Van Wagner, and Zachary Van Wagner; his brother, Thomas (Patsy) Stegemann of Chesterton, IN; his brothers and sisters-in-law; Janet and Cliff Leasure, Alvin Jr. and Mary Beth Slont, and Rudy Slont; his many nieces and nephews; Ruby the dog; and by his grand dogs: Thilly, Toby, and Yogi. 

       In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandson, Leo David Thilman; and by his brother, James Stegemann.

       Dave was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years. He was a proud  Union Steelworker for 43 years and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He loved fishing, woodworking, gardening, and birdwatching. 

       A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 3 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN with Pastor Ruth Popkin officiating. The family will receive friends for a Memorial Visitation from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
