Anthony Condeni Obituary
Anthony Mark Condeni, 98-year-old World War II veteran, passed away Tuesday, February 11, at Symphony of Chesterton. He was born March 25, 1921, in Salina, PA. His parents were Anthony and Angela (Casulli) Condeni, both Italian immigrants.
He married Amelia Theresa Lanzino on February 16, 1946, in Vandergrift, PA. The marriage lasted 66 years until her death March 13, 2012.
He attended Vandergrift schools and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He entered the U.S. Army in July 1942. He landed on Omaha Beach on June 10, 1944, and was part of the Normandy campaign, Battle of St. Lo and Battle of the Bulge. In 2017, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor medal for his World War II service in a ceremony at the French consulate in Chicago.
He was employed in the steel industry for more than 40 years in Vandergrift, PA, and Portage, IN. He was a member of the American Legion and his hobbies included card playing and coin collecting. He had lived in Chesterton since 1962.
He is survived by his sons Anthony S. Condeni (Karen) of Findlay, OH, and Mark Condeni of LaPorte, IN; daughters Angela Mabin (William) of Marshall, MI, and Rose Back (Dr. Jerry) of Charleston, SC. Also surviving are grandchildren Anthony Mabin of Grand Rapids, MI; Christine Condeni of Kansas City, MO; Christopher Condeni and Evan Back of Charleston, SC; Nathan Back of Denver, CO, and Nicholas Condeni (Amanda) and great-grandson Cameron Condeni of Ft. Myers, FL.
Also surviving is a sister Amelia Julian of Venice, FL. He was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and Vincent Condeni and a sister Mary Aiello.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, February 24, 2020 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N Calumet Rd, Chesterton, IN with Fr. Jon Plavcan officiating. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 23, 2020 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S 2nd St., Chesterton, IN.
