Joan Carol Politano

Joan Carol Politano, age 83 of Chesterton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov 25 while surrounded by her adoring children and other family members. She was born to the late Robert and Kathryn Brooks on August 20, 1936.

Joan graduated from Chesterton High School in 1954 and couple of years later met the love her life, Robert, on a blind date. Joan and Robert were married on March 23, 1957 and were celebrated 60 remarkable years together.

Joan worked as a bank teller in Chicago and later for Duneland Transportation Services where she assisted students with special needs. Her greatest achievement and most important job was raising her seven children and creating the most loving environment for her 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and dozens of extended family members. She loved gardening, attracting birds, reading, writing poetry and spending time on the lake with her beloved husband, Bob.  Above all, Joan was known for her incredible patience (remember – 7 children!), eternal optimism, infectious humor, unconditional love and support for everyone and most of all her selflessness.  She always put the needs and wants of others before her own.

Joan is survived by her children: Mary Branham (William Branham), Joseph Politano (Carol Politano), Barbara Poparad (Brian Waldo), Robert Politano, Jr., William Politano (Karen Kelley), Patricia Decker (Brad Decker), all of Chesterton, IN, and Kathleen Jennings (Mark Jennings) of Springfield, VA; her grandchildren: William Branham (Nicole Branham), Brian Branham, Joseph Eppolito, Jacob Eppolito(Amy Eppolito), Nicholas Politano, Zachary Decker, Emily Decker, Abigail Decker, all of Chesterton, IN, and Adaire Jennings Bennett (Nathan Bennett) of Durham, NC and Madeleine Jennings Baxter (LoganBaxter) of Oundel, UK; by her great-grandchildren: Samantha Branham, Manny Branham, Aiden Branham, Amaya Branham, and Ryder Eppolito, all of Chesterton, IN and Finn Baxter of Oundel, UK; and by her brother Gerald Brooks (Darlene Brooks),  sister Amy Boehlke (James Boehlke) and sister, Jane Wiseman (Darwin Wiseman). She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Politano, herparents, Robert and Kathryn Brooks, brother, William Brooks (Annette), sister Laurie Kubal and infant sister Mary Catherine Brooks. Also daughters-in-law, Dora Politano, Kris Politano and son-in-law William Poparad

Viewing will be at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton, IN on Friday, Nov 29 from 1-4 pm followed by a service at 4 pm presided over by Father Gerald Schweitzer.
