Dina Sue Brickler, age 77 of Chesterton, IN, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2019.  She was born on June 19, 1942 in Gary, IN to Norman B. Wright and B. Lucille (Roberts) Wright, both of whom preceded her in death.  

On June 20, 1959 at Saint Patrick’s Church in Chesterton, she married the love of her life, John Schweir, who preceded her in death. Dina joined Saint Patrick’s Parish that same year and remained an active member there her whole life.

She is survived by her loving children: Karin (Dan) Czerniak of Blue Springs, MO, Susan (Richard) Knoelke of Grafton, WI, and Gregg (Suzi) Schweir of Hixson, TN; her grandchildren: Donald Knoelke of Chicago, IL, Joseph Knoelke of Grafton, WI, Mary Knoelke of Grafton, WI, Ethan (Laura) Schweir of Chicago, IL, Johnny (Kelsey) Schweir of Grand Rapids, MI, and Dr. Melanie Schweir (Dr. Taylor Dickey) of Kalamazoo, MI; her great-grandchildren, Sophie Schweir of Chicago, IL and Sutter Schweir of Grand Rapids, MI; her brother, Norman (Veronica “Roni”) Starkey of Gambrills, MD; nephew, Robert (Lisa) Starkey of Davidsonville, MD; niece, Kirstan Starkey of Arnold, MD; Grand nieces and nephews: Ella, Aubree, Hannah, Kayla, Jake, and Carly; and by her cousin, Janet (Ron) Orf of Tripoli, IA. 

She is also survived by her very special friends who loved her and took care of her in her final years:  Sue Brennan, Carol and David Shepard, and also her lifelong friend Shirley (Wayne) Horner.

Dina was the manager of the Westchester Convenience Center of Porter Memorial Hospital for twenty years. She loved to nurture her plants, especially her rosebushes.  She enjoyed spending time with her amazing friends playing Mexican Train or just visiting.  Her dog, Mitzi, was a constant and loving companion over the years.  She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N Calumet Rd., Chesterton, IN with Fr. Jon Plavcan officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church from 10:15 a.m. until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery.

WVOG & Board Members express their Sympathy. Dina was past president for the Association. Her knowledge and personality will be deeply missed. She was an outstanding person in all respects. Dina gave it all to help people in all ways possible. She was a caring individual. Dina will be greatly missed by all.

Your mom was such a wonderful lady. I remember she taught me how to float on my back at your pool. She was a very caring person. You all have my heart felt sympathy. I’m keeping you all in my prayers.
