Music by The Piano Brothers

George Clyde Simms was born at his family homestead in Bismarck, MO in August of 1938 and entered into his eternal rest on October 1, 2019. His family moved to Burdick when Clyde was a young boy, and he attended Jackson Township School. Being the 8th of 9 children enabled him to have a great sense of humor, and he will forever be remembered as being very quick-witted. Family picnics and gatherings were always entertaining with old stories and laughter between Clyde and his siblings, especially his brothers, Keith and Larry.

His first job was a door to door milkman for Dixie Dairy, which eventually grew into distributing milk to local supermarkets. Being a milkman most of his working life, he kept milkman hours by rising early for breakfast frequenting local diners after his retirement. George was a gifted entrepreneur, and he began many businesses in the area: Zip Foods, Melody Lane Distributor, and Circles in the Wind.

Loving horses his entire life, he worked and trained teams through which he eventually developed a friendship with the Amish community. That led to a respect for their handcrafted woodwork for which Circles in the Wind had its beginning. He always gave a helping hand to those in need.

He is survived by his daughters: Victoria (Mark) Breitzke of Chesterton, Suzanne (Brian) Shirley of Dodge City, KS and Paula Rosenbaum of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Jeb (Amy) Breitzke, Wade (Cambria) Breitzke, Shane (Brittany) Breitzke, Samantha (Clay) Payne, Levi (Miranda) Shirley, and Rebekah (Hunter) Heiland; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Betty Hanson of Valparaiso, Doris Dowell of Portage, JoAnn Hokanson of Chesterton, and Jamie Brown of Tucson, AZ; brother, Keith (Gloria) Simms of Chesterton; and by his numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred (Robertson) Simms; his sisters, Ruth Spurr and Charlotte Tinsley; brother, Larry Simms; brothers-in-law: Joseph Spurr, Richard Dowell, Dolvin Tinsley, Gurney Hanson, David Hokanson, and Bruce Brown; his son-in-law, Doug Rosenbaum; and great-grandson, Knoa Breitzke.

A private Graveside Service will be held at Chesterton Cemetery.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Anderson’s Winery & Vineyards, 400 E US Highway 6, Valparaiso, IN, where light refreshments will be served. The family requests that those attending please dress appropriately for the weather, as the memorial will be held outside in the garden area.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the VNA Hospice Center or to the donor’s choice.
