David Alfred Hokanson, age 89 of Porter, IN, passed away on April 11, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on May 18, 1929 in Hobart, IN to Henning and Violet Hokanson, both of whom preceded him in death.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, JoAnn Simms Hokanson of Porter, IN; his daughters, Becky Muraro of Porter, IN and Lisa Hokanson of Porter, IN; his grandchildren, David (Haley) Scott of Chesterton, IN and Carrie Samila of LaPorte, IN; and by his great-grandchildren: Gavin Scott of Porter, IN, Victoria Scott of Chesterton, IN, Jerry Scott of Chesterton, IN, Fiona Scott of Chesterton, IN, and Johnny Speakman of LaPorte, IN.

He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Trudy Scott on December 11, 2008; his grandson, Jason Scott on December 1, 2012; his brother and sister-in-law, Edwin (Lila) Hokanson; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Kenneth) Humbert; and by his sister, Linnea Hokanson.

David was a member of Porter United Methodist Church and was also a member of Local 697 I.B.E.W. for 58 years.

There was nothing that David couldn’t fix; cars, appliances and he enjoyed construction projects. Everyone knew they could depend on him for his assistance, which is why JoAnn never had a repairman in her home for 66 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.

Memorial donations may be given to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave, Valparaiso, IN 46383, for their wonderful care.

Hey Dad I miss you so much and this world is not the same without you. I wanted you to have at least one message since nobody has wrote anything. You were the best man and Father and always helped me with anything I needed. Even when I was at my lowest point in my life you sat me down and told me that life was worth living and to never give up. So I did not I fought hard and came out of my problems. You saved my life and I will always be grateful for all you said and done. You were one month shy of your 90th Birthday so I know you had a wonderful life and now your not in all that pain that you were in. But it is still hard to go on without your grouchy butt! ha
