Wendy Marie (Nelson) Smith, age 43 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on March 25, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on April 6, 1975 in Valparaiso, IN to James and Rhonda Nelson, both surviving in Portage. 

On October 3, 1998 in Portage, IN, she married the love of her life, Walter Scott Smith, who survives in Valparaiso. 

She is also survived by her loving children, Madeline Smith and Walter Smith, both of Valparaiso; her siblings, David (Shelley) Brown of Birmingham, AL and Nancy (Andy) Trott of Weeki Wachee, FL; her in-laws: William and Stephanie Smith of Kouts, Sherri and Rob Berquist of Portage, Judie Sawtell of Rensselaer and Linda and John Chaplinski of Kouts; and by her many nieces and nephews.

Wendy was a fourth-grade teacher at Yost Elementary for 20 years.  Her passion was teaching and she loved everything about the profession. She also loved her “crazy garden.”

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Washington Evangelical Free Church, 3805 Laporte Ave # A, Valparaiso, IN.

Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.
