 Richard C. Michaels, age 76 of Chesterton, passed away on December 12, 2018 at Porter Regional Hospital. He was born on May 1, 1942 to Harold and LaDonne Michaels, both of whom preceded him in death.

On October 14, 1983, in Chesterton, IN, he married Carol Allshouse Michaels, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by his children: Craig (Charlotte) Michaels of Valparaiso, IN, Trish Michaels of Lake Station, IN, Susan (Bob) Quinn of Valparaiso, IN, and Debbie Tarkane of Chesterton, IN; his grandchildren: Spencer, Dustin, and Kay Michaels, Jen (Matt) Estill, Kelly (Bevan) Coulopoulos, Kristin (Joe) Quinn, Robert (Meghan) Quinn, Lindsey (Joey) Tarkane, Michael (Marie) Tarkane, Katie (Adam) Tarkane, Robert Allshouse III, Ryan (Brittany) Allshouse, Aaron Allshouse and Susan Allshouse; his 22 great-grandchildren; and by his siblings, Alan Michaels of IL and Kathy (Darrel) Dunnick of WA.

Richard is also preceded in death by his sons, Rick on December 27, 1986 and Bob Allshouse in January of 2018; his sister, Janice (Don) Shearer and his sister-in-law, Judy Michaels.

Richard proudly served his country as a United States Marine. He was a member of St. John’s United Church in Chesterton and a member of the American Legion Post 170. He also loved camping and fishing.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s United Church, 225 W Lincoln Ave, Chesterton, IN with Reverend Aaron Ban officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Arrangements are under the care of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN.
Memorial donations may be given to Frontline Foundation, 1008 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304, The Duneland Resale Shop, 801 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Carol and family - I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Dick. What I knew of him, he was a loving, kind, and gentle man. I liked him a lot and he was a lucky man to have you by his side. God bless you. Jan

I'm sorry to hear of Mr. Michael's passing. He coached our 5th grade CYO basketball team at St Francis in Lake Station. I played basketball with his sons Rick and Craig on this team. He was my first ever coach, and a really nice man. May God be preparing a place for him in heaven.
