Donald R. McGuire, age 86 of Porter, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 in Chesterton.  He was born on October 26, 1928 in Gary, IN to Thomas James and Letha Mae Glassburner-McGuire, both of whom preceded him in death.

On June 10, 2005 he married Geneva “Jill” Smith-McGuire, who survives in Porter. 

Donald is also survived by his sons: Robert (Kathleen) McGuire of Valparaiso, Donald R. (Dana)  McGuire II of Valparaiso and Ronald L. (Susan) McGuire of Rotunda, FL, as well as his step-children: Richard Holt of Chesterton, Luke Holt of Chesterton and Teresa (Chris) Reynolds of Valparaiso.

Also surviving are his fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and his brother, Richard Lee McGuire of Tunnell Hill, GA.

Donald is also preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Jean Wells and his brother-in-law, Ralph Wells. 

He was a member of the American Legion Post 94 in Valparaiso. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his dog, Daisy.  His wife, Geneva was the love of his life.

Donald worked at U.S. Steel, Gary Works as a painter for many years. He proudly served his country in WWII in the Navy.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 1 until 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 94, 4 Monroe St, Valparaiso, IN 46383, with a Naval Military service taking place at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150, Chicago, IL 60601 or to the Porter County Animal Shelter, 2056 Heavilin Rd, Valparaiso, IN.  Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home.
