Kathleen “Kate” (Parry) Morris, of Chesterton, passed away peacefully on February 3rd from lung cancer. She was born in Valparaiso on December 21, 1937 to David and Setta Parry. Kate graduated from Chesterton High School in 1956.  She was married to Roger Morris for more than 56 years.

One of her fondest childhood memories was living at the Indiana Dunes State Park in the 1950s when her father was the site supervisor.  She loved to explore the dunes and the newly created trails, and enjoyed watching artist Frank Dudley paint magnificent scenes.  She continued to celebrate her love of the dunes throughout her life.

Always nurturing and serving others, she was a Deacon at St. John’s United Church in Chesterton.  She worked at Lowenstine’s and Ray’s Tots to Teens, spent many years as a stay at home mom, worked as a secretary for her father’s real estate business, served as a Girl Scout leader, was a cashier at Hooks Drugs in Chesterton, was a nursing home activity director, and has been the caregiver supreme for numerous family members throughout her life.  She spent a considerable amount of time at the Duneland Resale Shop in its early days, sorting and pricing merchandise.

Kate is survived by her husband, Roger; children, Roger Alan (Jianing) Morris of Bloomington, Indiana and Ruth A. (Ralph) Johnston of Valparaiso; grandchildren Lia Morris, Lena Morris, Roger Morris, Jr., Evan Johnston,  Andy Morris, and Zachary Johnston; sister, Jeanine Harris of Porter, sister-in-law, Patricia Parry of Michigan City, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her firstborn son, Roger Charles, Jr. in 1958; her father, David, in 1974 and her mother, Setta, in 1996; and her brother, David, in 2011.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. at St. John’s United Church in Chesterton.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the VNA Hospice of Porter County at http://www.VNAportercounty.org .  Arrangements are under the direction of White-Love Funeral Home, Chesterton.

I am so sorry to hear of Kathleen's passing. We were great friends in school, even
in the same school play. Had good times together but sorry to say we both went our own way after graduation. Kathleen was a very special person and I believe
her teachings to her children and grandchildren will live in their lives and be passed on to the next generation. Your family is in our prayers.

My deepest sympathy to Kathleen's family.
Kathleen was kind to me as a child. She watched over me while my mother,
Sophie Henderlong, worked at the grocery store at the Dunes. (I'm about 7 yrs younger) We both loved the Dunes. Thought of her often over the years.
My prayers are with her and her family. May she rest in peace.

Dear Roger and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of Kathleen's passing. John worked with you at the steel mill years ago and I knew Kathleen from Banta School in Valpo before she moved to Chesterton. We played together a lot in those days. Time has sent us on our separate ways, but I still think of her in a warm way from our youth. She was a very sweet girl. John sends his prayers to you Roger.
God Bless you and yours.
